The history of Chance Bros. Marble & Tile can be traced back to Elmer Chance Sr. who worked at Edgewood Marble & Tile for ten years as a tile setter back in the 1930’s. He instilled his strong work ethic into his two sons, Dave and Elmer Jr. The two boys were growing up during the Great Depression era and fondly remember not having much as kids, but this only drove them to work hard in starting Chance Bros. Marble & Tile.
Dave Chance Sr. was like his dad in being a hard working and outstanding tile mechanic. He served Wege Marble and Tile for ten years, until the owners were ready to retire. They gave Dave the “chance” to take over the company. Dave and Elmer Jr. started the company out of Dave’s garage back in 1969. The pair mostly installed ceramic tile in homes.
In 1971, the company had outgrown the garage and moved into the old city morgue. This was quite an interesting place for a tile company, but then again this isn’t your typical tile company. The city had plans for the new land and asked the brothers if they wouldn’t mind moving to the corner of Illinois and McCarty St. They gladly accepted the offer and in 1979 they built the warehouse that now houses the stone fabrication shop. Dave Sr. also had two boys that were working for him out in the field and helping with estimates.
Dave Jr. and Tim inherited the same work ethic that Dave Sr. had used to become so successful. They took over in 1987 and in 1990 added the soft flooring division of Chance Bros. Marble & Tile.
The future looks bright for Chance Bros. Marble & Tile in the commercial flooring market and granite fabrication. The most respected general contractors continue to use Chance Bros. Marble & Tile for their fair pricing and honest workmanship. Homeowners continually praise the unbelievable difference the granite work makes in their kitchen and bathrooms.
